Kelowna joins fight against cancer: Terry Fox Run this Sunday

The annual Kelowna Terry Fox Run is on Sunday, Sept. 15 at Stuart Park.

Participants, in more than 650 communities across Canada, will run and walk as they raise funds for cancer research.

Terry Fox events are also being held in the United States, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. 

To date, more than $900 million has been raised for cancer research through the Terry Fox Foundation. 

Terry began his run on April 12, 1980, after dipping his artificial leg in the Atlantic Ocean. He was forced to stop on Sept. 1 near Thunder Bay after cancer appeared in his lungs. Terry covered 5,373 kilometres in 143 days. He died on June 21, 1981, at the age of 22.

Registration for the Kelowna run can be done on the or in person at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
