United Way draws attention to Syrian refugees

Agency at forefront of offering assistance and compassion to local groups helping new immigrants adjust to life in Canada.

News of an influx of refugees to our community has prompted Okanagan individuals, businesses and nonprofits to get involved.

A region-wide coordinated effort is underway. It is anticipated that 20 Syrian families will arrive at the Kelowna airport over the next four months.

Their needs will reflect both the unique settlement issues of newcomers and the typical concerns of any family moving to another country taking few material possessions with them.
