Heat records were broken again in Vernon for July 22 as temperatures rose to 40.1.

Another day, another heat record.

It's been a hot few weeks, capped off with a record-breaking day Sunday, July 21.

The record of 40 degrees Celsius was set back in 1908 for July 21 in Vernon.

The mercury just barely broke that record, reaching 40.1.

With it, comes the end of the heat warning that has been in effect as temperatures start to settle back to normal.

"As the ridge (of high pressure) shifts eastward, a gradually cooling trend is expected beginning tonight with daytime high temperatures lowering below warning criteria on Tuesday," according to Environment Canada.

The high for Monday is forecast to be 34, with a 60 per cent chance of showers or thunderstorms this evening and after midnight.

A high of 27 is expected Tuesday followed by 32 Wednesday, 26 Thursday and 25 Friday.

Smoke is also creating a haze throughout the province and a special air quality statement has been issued.

"Significant improvements are expected in smoke concentrations over the next 24 hours as westerly winds move across the province moving smoke east," according to Environment Canada.
