Fireworks nearly cause house fire in Rutland

A permit is required to set off fireworks

A man illegally setting off fireworks in Rutland Monday night nearly set a house on fire.

At approximately 6:16 p.m. Kelowna Fire Department received a 911 call reporting a hedge fire on Primrose Road in the Rutland area.

When fire crew arrived they found a cedar hedge next to a residence fully involved in fire.

含羞草研究社淔irefighters quickly extinguished the fire, which had extended to a temporary storage tent on a neighboring property,含羞草研究社 said Tim Light, KFD platoon captain, in a press release.

含羞草研究社淲itnesses stated that some people in the neighborhood were setting off fireworks and that is what started the hedge on fire.含羞草研究社

The officer on the scene questioned the individual involved with the fireworks who admitted he had set off the fireworks.

This individual was given a ticket for illegally setting off fireworks without a permit. The fine on the ticket is $250.00.

RCMP followed up with the individual as well.

Kelowna Fire Department would like to remind the public that any use of fireworks in the City of Kelowna is prohibited without the proper licensing and Permits.
