There are heavy hearts in Lake Country.

Owen Dickie, Oyama含羞草研究社檚 representative on district council, died Monday after a battle with cancer. He was 61.

含羞草研究社淗e represented Oyama well and all of Lake Country,含羞草研究社 said Mayor James Baker.

Dickie moved to Oyama in 1989 and after retiring as a home inspector, he was elected as the ward councillor in 2011.

含羞草研究社淗e was our Energizer bunny. He was so eager on everything,含羞草研究社 said Baker.

含羞草研究社淗e was a hard worker and he had the welfare of the community at heart. Every committee he was on he was a major asset.含羞草研究社

In a statement, Dickie含羞草研究社檚 family pointed out that he always gave 100 per cent and was never unprepared.

含羞草研究社淗e kept Oyama residents well informed of council activities, worked on funding for senior housing in Lake Country, and had a new playground in Oyama constructed. He was a driving force behind the purchase of the rail trail and was very proud that it will be a place for his children and grandchildren to explore for years to come,含羞草研究社 they stated.

Beyond council, he was very active in the community, including helping with Fun Day, Christmas, and Halloween activities, community hall maintenance and building Oyama含羞草研究社檚 community garden.

Dickie is survived by his wife Marj, three children and four grandchildren.

含羞草研究社淥wen will be remembered by all who knew him as having a zest for living life to its fullest, never being afraid to take on a challenge, big or small, and for having worked with determination at any project he took on,含羞草研究社 states the family.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Oyama Community Hall.
