Sicamous rail trail zoning won含羞草研究社檛 change for dock owners

Water zoning dictates dock usage, not property designation

After a long road to get there, the newly rezoned section of rail trail in Sicamous will keep its P-3 Parks designation, despite a proposed new zoning.

At the April 24 district Committee of the Whole meeting, Coun. Gord Bushell presented a draft P-6 Transportation Corridor that he含羞草研究社檇 originally suggested at the April 10 rezoning vote.

含羞草研究社淲e含羞草研究社檙e not holding anything up, we含羞草研究社檙e going ahead with the third reading of the P-3含羞草研究社 but I do think we need to correct our zoning on that side of the channel,含羞草研究社 he said. 含羞草研究社淥ur OCP (official community plan) supports private docks over there, and P-3 supports group moorage含羞草研究社 so I think we should follow our vision with the OCP and zone it properly, because it含羞草研究社檚 not zoned properly for private docks.含羞草研究社

The zone he created would allow a rail trail, public utilities, fixed or removable walkways and docks 含羞草研究社 one per property 含羞草研究社 and a pedestrian bridge.

Mayor Colleen Anderson, however, pointed out that a property含羞草研究社檚 zoning doesn含羞草研究社檛 apply to the waterfront, which has its own zoning.

含羞草研究社淛ust for clarification, the folks on the other side of the channel, the dock owners含羞草研究社 once they gain permission from the upland owner, they are able to have their docks,含羞草研究社 she explained. 含羞草研究社淪o that has really nothing to do with us, because the water is zoned for private moorage in Sicamous.含羞草研究社

Chief administrative officer Kelly Bennett confirmed that, adding that no other properties abutting the lake have docks mentioned in their zoning; it含羞草研究社檚 the water 含羞草研究社 W-1, W-2 and W-3 zones 含羞草研究社 that dictates the allowance of a dock.

含羞草研究社淚t is the W-1 that is the water, that含羞草研究社檚 the one that controls the upland docks, it has nothing to do with the zoning,含羞草研究社 Anderson said. 含羞草研究社淥nce they get their permits, they are good to go.含羞草研究社

Though Bushell had suggested sending the proposed P-6 zone to the planning committee for review, the committee didn含羞草研究社檛 make a motion to do so.
