Southern Interior to receive $522K to support economic development

It follows an announcement for improvements to regional transportation

Communities in the southern Interior are set to receive more than half a million dollars in funding for 27 projects.

The Economic Trust of the Southern Interior (ETSI-BC) announced Tuesday (Dec. 12) that applicants for the fall funding intake will receive a total of $522,000 in funding to support projects that will enhance the region含羞草研究社檚 economy.

Over $1.1 million has been approved with the Regional Transportation Enhancement (RTE) Funding Program which was also announced on Dec.12th, 2023. As stated in ETSI-BC含羞草研究社檚 press release, this brings their funding to support communities and First Nations in the Southern Interior to over $3 million.

The transit program offers grants which improve transportation and infrastructure between commnuities in the southern Interior. One of the main focuses of the program is to improve transportation opportunities in Indigenous and smaller, more rural communities.

These projects will help residents with day-to-day transportation challenges such as travelling to work and appointments. As well, the funding will help improve tourism transportation, such as ski resort shuttles.

More than 100 projects worth over $ 6 million have been approved this year which has helped to create or maintain over 7,000 jobs in the southern Interior, according to CEO Laurel Douglas.
