Vernon council considering goose harvesting program

An innovative new option to manage the invasive geese population in Vernon is being explored.

Guardians of our Salish Estuaries (GooSE) presented to city council Monday, March 11 to look at harvesting geese for food.

An 含羞草研究社渆thical含羞草研究社 approach to harvest adult Canada geese was suggested by Garreth Ashley, a wildlife biologist with GooSE.

含羞草研究社淲e含羞草研究社檝e partnered with quite a few First Nations groups throughout the years, as they help with the meat processing,含羞草研究社 Ashley said. 含羞草研究社淎t the end of the day, the goal is to generate a high quality food source and to lower those targeting invasive Canada goose population.含羞草研究社

If eventually approved, GooSE would look to conduct the harvest in 2025.

Administration will bring a report to council at a future meeting, although it wasn含羞草研究社檛 specified exactly when.
